Eric Rondepierre is a French artist, who in the early 1990s started exploring the blind spots of cinema.The artist began to notice totally black images within certain films, images that were invisible in normal conditions of perception. He spent years systematically sampling them from subtitled foreign-language films, photographing images directly on the television screen by using the slo-mo and freeze-frame buttons on his VCR.

The artist produces his images using decaying old film material and other sources.He focuses on making the invisible aspect of film visible by showing even the the cinematographic accidents such as black spots.Eric Rondepierre's rephotographed, deteriorated film stills, with their uncanny protuberances, is yet another attempt at gaining a fresh perspective on ready-made art and surrealism, his photographs honor the ravages of time on the film itself and find the poetry that results.
