"My ambition is handicapped by my laziness."

Ania Losinger was born 1970 in Berne (Switzerland) and has followed her dream to find a creative outlet, in which dance and music are combined in one person. She discovered her fascination for metrical rhythm and with the Xala as a danceable percussion instrument she finds a sensual and abstract synthesis of music and movement.

XALA is the first and only floor-xylophone in the world. The idea of the dancing musician Ania Losinger was an acoustic instrument with vibrating wood tones, which could carry the weight of a human body and chime simultaneously. She plays repetitive, rhythmically complex tone sculptures with flamenco shoes and wooden poles the size of herself. An extremely simple yet fascinating synthesis of music and movement has been achieved with the development and construction of the Xala.
