Marvelous.Genious.Stop motion. I'm constantly amazed by the stunning art of stop motion films, The Quay Brothers are among the few directors of animated film to have a distinctive approach and style, the Quay's films are influenced by Jan Svankmejer's, although the work of the Quays has often linked to that of Svankmajer, the clear difference in the style and content is so obvious, that almost every Quay animation is instantly recognisable as their work.
In Svankmajer's world, decay is the primary decor, where he designs his films and lets others animate them, but the Quay's plots maintain a thoroughly personal hand-on approach to their film-making a stream-of-consciousness nightmares with a definite edge of humor.

Their filmography is elegantly dark, abstruse, their metaphoric perspective and dreamlike atmosphere creates a strange obscureness that influenced many artists like Fred Stuhr who did some of the Tool videos. Tool's striking music videos, with their decaying sets, grim color schemes and general aura of menace stop motion animations are inspired by The Quay Brothers.I've stumbled upon a very interesting video on Youtube, the director of this short is Morgan Routt, music by Tool



...In my opinion it bears a strange resemblance to the Dead Ringers film's plot directed by David Cronenberg /:)
